Gaming habits.

WARNING: Wall of text, probably boring if you’re not into video games, or even if you are.

Bored of Diablo 3. Not that it’s a bad game or anything, I think it’s great (though it has a lot of problems, some of them I don’t even think the community has noticed). The real problem is that I have a timed cutoff on the diminishing marginal returns of enjoyment that video games provide, and for some reason this cutoff happens to be almost exactly 2 weeks.

Take Skyrim for example. I loved the fuck out of Oblivion, even though that game had a myriad of issues, and I was extremely excited for Skyrim. I picked the game up, and it delivered. I honestly played probably 10-12 hours a day everyday for 2 weeks, and probably would’ve been more everyday if it wasn’t during school.

Once that 2 week mark hits though…I’m done. An internal switch goes off magically in my head that says “I’d probably have more fun doing something else now,” and once I touch the game again, I can’t stand to play it for more than an hour. It’s somewhat frustrating, as I’ve always considered myself to have a completionist mind-state, and set out to mark every location on my map, do every sidequest, etc. I plan on doing this, but once that 2 week mark hits, I pretty much just say fuck it, even though I promised myself I would get as much out of the game as possible.

The same thing has happened once again with Diablo. I have played the shit out of this game for the past couple weeks, and when I wasn’t playing it, I was studying it and reading about it. Once this Tuesday hit though, (2 weeks on the dot), I simply stopped cold turkey, and I don’t really care about going back. Even if I’m only 1 act and a half away from beating Inferno. It has nothing to do with the game, it’s just me.

I’ve come to realize I’m just not the kind of person who can stick with playing one game anymore. I certainly used to be; I spent a good few years devoted to Halo 2, Smash Bros., and WoW. Not anymore. From now on I need to be realistic on my expectations as far as game completion goes, and should probably check out more games on steam and stuff instead of pretending like I’m going to play one game the entire summer (Diablo). Kind of a shame considering it’s the first game in a long time that a lot of my friends are playing (who aren’t usual/hardcore gamers), but I’m just done.

Can we just all agree that this was the best indie game to ever be invented of all time forever?
Because that would probably solve every problem ever. probably.

Wooo

Got the job. Hoping I wasn’t too lenient on the hours I can work, I don’t really want a part-time job to turn full time. (I put like 10 hours of availability every night). Kinda stoked, even though it isn’t really a job worth bringing up.

I’ve got a job interview in a couple hours. I’m kinda nervous, even though it’s a pretty unglamorous part-time job, it very well may fit my horrible sleeping schedule and give me more time for a summer course I plan on taking. I’ve only had one job interview before this, and actually went in not knowing it was an interview, and was offered the job on the spot. Couldn’t take it though due to a series of events.

Hopefully I get it. It would be nice to have some working experience on my resume and have some cash to buy new clothes, considering 75% of my clothes are from high school. Otherwise I may start looking for weekend jobs to do during the school year, which would be quite lame.
